FAQs

When does practice start?  What days do we practice?
Practice starts the 1st week of August.  The first two weeks of practice are Mini Camp.  Mini Camp will run Monday – Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00pm.  After school starts we will practice on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 – 8:00pm.

What if my child attends PSR or plays another sport?
While we want your child at every practice, we understand they are still young children with other commitments.   Let your head coach know of any recurring conflict with practice or games ASAP.

What is the cost for the regular season?
Registration is $240 plus $50 for two Mouse races fund raiser tickets.   Cost includes all equipment and uniform.  Child retains jersey at completion of season.  There is NO concession duty required.  A $200 equipment deposit is required.  Check will be returned/destroyed when equipment is returned.

Are the kids grouped by age and weight?
Teams are grouped by age brackets.  The age brackets are 5/6, 7/8 and then they are split by grade - 4th and 5th.  If there are not enough players to field a 4th grade team, 4th grade players can be combined into a 5th grade team.  There are weight restrictions on players who can advance the ball.  7/8′s is 85 pounds, 9/10′s is 100 pounds.  Heavier kids will be linemen.  No weight restriction on the defensive side.

Where are your practices?
All practices are held on the fields outside of Grant’s Shelter at Jefferson Barracks.

Where are your home games?
On the turf field at

Can I just drop off my child at practice and games?
NO !  Due to the physical nature of the game, injuries can and will happen.  While most are just bumps and bruises, there is always the possibility of severe injury.  A parent or legal guardian MUST BE PRESENT at all times to authorize medical treatment in the event of injury.

What equipment will my son need?
Each player will be issued a complete set of shoulder pads, helmet, chinstrap, mouthguard, and game jersey.

The helmets we issue are the Riddell Revolution Air Helmets.  They are air filled to fit your son’s head snugly, NOT SQUEEZING it.  If your son is experiencing pain or discomfort let your coach know ASAP.  We can inflate or deflate the helmet and change out some of the pads to make it fit.

In addition to the game uniform and equipment provided by the club, players are responsible for providing the following additional personal equipment.  These items can be found at any sporting goods store or on-line.

  • Mouthpiece
A standard mouthpiece will be given to your child with their equipment. The mouthpiece MUST be worn at all times during play. Please take a few minutes to cut the mouthpiece down to the proper size and boil the mouthpiece so they can bite into it, this way it fits comfortably in their mouths. A properly fitted mouthpiece will form a slight suction to the upper teeth.  Directions can be found on the package.

Mouthpieces come in several different styles. Some are more expensive than others. Any sporting goods store will carry several styles. If the player has braces or other orthodontia, you may want to consult his doctor on what brand he or she recommends.

ALL players must wear a mouthpiece with a lanyard connected to the facemask.  If they do not have the proper mouthpiece with lanyard, they will not be allowed to play in games.  This is not an SCAC rule, this is a league rule.

  • Athletic Supporter and Cup
Athletic supporters have come along way in recent years. The traditional jock is still an option, but may players seem to prefer the compression shorts.

If you’re purchasing compression shorts, be sure to get the 6-Pocket version. In the 6 Pocket versions, the players can insert their cup, hip, tail and thigh pads. This makes it easier for them to get dressed, and it’s safer for them because if their pants get twisted their pads stay in place.

SCAC rules mandate ALL players MUST wear a protective cup.

  • Shoes
While your child may attempt to convince you he needs a $120 pair of shoes to play football, that is not the case. However, we do recommend wearing spiked shoes. The only rule is NO metal spikes. If you would like to buy football cleats, that’s great, but it’s OK for them to wear baseball or soccer cleats.

  • Practice Pants and Jersey
Every player will need a pair of practice pants, game pants, and a practice jersey.  For pants, the best option is the integrated pants with pads already in them.  Game pants must be black.  They can be used for practice as well, however some parents opt to purchase separate pants for practice.

A practice jersey is a great idea, but not mandatory. Many players wear a large t-shirt for practice. If you have a men’s sized t-shirt that is not too loose, then it’s fine for them to wear.

  • A Water Bottle!
Every player should bring a water bottle to practices and games. It needs to be 32 oz or larger. The early months of practice are very hot and they will need to drink lots of water to stay hydrated.  Please use a water container with a closeable spout so they don’t leak while lying on the ground.

Water and Ice is the best. Sports drinks get warm and they are full of sugars. Please try to avoid sending them to practice. If they want sports drinks, save them for after practice.
